John Chow is an Idiot!

For some odd reason, it appears that every blogger I know end up talking about John Chow. It’s like destiny - everyone just have to blog about him and how much he sucks / rocks. It’s a wild thing that I’m barely getting to understand now.
Let’s go back in time. It happened about one year ago or so. I kept hearing all this nasty comments about John Chow on every webmaster forum I used to frequent back then. Then, about 6-7 months ago a good friend of mine published an entry on his blog ranting about John Chow and his viral video. Seeing all these negative vibes about John Chow on the blogosphere I decided that he was a total jerk and didn’t deserve to get my attention. So, I never visited his blog - not even once.
However, I still kept hearing about this guy everywhere: John Chow is a marketing genius. John Chow sucks and deserves to die for what he’s doing to blogging. Thanks, John Chow, you’re my source of inspiration!. John Chow: suck my dick shaft!. What a pain! This is getting tiresome -I said to myself- what’s with this guy, anyway? He’s just an idiot, right?
Today, I came accross two blog posts, one of them from my friend Rajaie Alkorani from RajaieTalks. Raj said that John Chow is famous for a number of reasons and one of them is the fact that he really does not give a damn about his critics - he just blogs what he thinks.
Then, I found another blog entry about John Chow by Rich Page at Rich-Page.com. What caught my attention about his entry was that he had the exact same feelings about John Chow as I did. John Chow is such a moron. But wait, this post was kinda different. He started his blog post describing how arrogant Jonh is and the next thing I read was about John Chow’s ebook. What?! You just said that he’s an arrogant dick, how come are you reading his ebook now? I was in a shock.
Out of curiosity, I decided to check John Chow’s blog and found that I had to subscribe to read this ebook Rich talked about. Damn, I was in trouble. Usually I don’t subscribe to a site unless a) it has some great contents which I want to read, or b) there’s this great contest going on that requires me to hand over my email address in order to participate.
Even when I was fearing I was going to get another crappy ebook and tons of spam emails -and I’m damn sure I’ll get tons of spam in my inbox-, I decided to give John a second chance too and read what he had to say on his ebook. I gave away my email and my name to get it.
When I read the first couple of lines, I wasn’t really impressed. This is yet another blogging ebook - I said. There were a couple of basics ideas about blogging which I already knew. Right then, I found this couple of paragraphs that caught my attention immediately:
You know why a person with a loser’s mentality always uses words lile “someday”, “I hope” or “I wish”? He does it because it gives him an out and allows himself to not be accountable for his word. If he was to place a time limit on the goal and doesn’t do it, he fails, and a loser hates failing. Winners have no fear of failing because they know success is made from a string of failures.
If you’re blogging only for money, then you’re in for a shock. [...] 99% of blogs on the Web cannot make more than $100 a month. John Chow dot Com makes money because I don’t blog for money. If the only reason you’re blogging is to get rich, you will fail.
He had hit the nail on the head. A connection was made right away. I realized that we shared some common ideas about blogging. A lot of people fail because all they have in mind is getting rich in a fast and effortless way. That’s so wrong. You gotta blog because you like to, not to make money with it. If you blog with such mindset, you’ll get nowhere fast.
I kept reading his ebook and found a couple of marketing strategies that are worth a shot -one of them is quite dirty!- and some blogging tips that I unconsciously already knew but needed someone to digg it out for me. I found John’s ebook quite nice, actually. I’m still a bit surprised to see that he gave it away just like that - that’s why I fear I’ll be getting my email filled up with spam xD
I wouldn’t go as far as calling John Chow a marketing genius -as Rich Page did- but I gotta admit that he’s got some skills. He seems to have a very clear notion of what his readers want to read and provides them with that. Consequently, he’s successful and gets money out of it.
Don’t get me wrong, though. Even when I share some common views with him and believe that he’s got some nice points of view about Internet marketing, I still think he’s a moron. Most of his marketing techniques are nowhere near to be ethical -and that’s one of several reasons why some people hate him- which I don’t support, either. He’s scamming people to maintain himself at the top. Not nice.
Anyways, this is just another blog post about John Chow.

John Chow again? Sigh.
Yup, he is a moron.
Heheh, and people wonder why John is famous
@Rajaie: The reason behind his success is clear to me: he doesn’t give a #!$& about what others thing. He does what he wants. And that is what makes him what he is today.
@Wong: Agree xD But it seems it can’t be helped. The guy has got the skills. People love him/hate him and that’s why he’s so popular.
“Seeing all these negative vibes about John Chow on the blogosphere I decided that he was a total jerk and didn’t deserve to get my attention”
That’s where you did it wrong. You should watch out for people, and not make notions on the basis of what others believe. People’s tastes are different and that is one big reason why many people don’t like John Cow, while some others do.
As, you’ve mentioned in the last para’s of your post, you’re reading his book and found it to be useful, I am gonna read it too now
@Swastik: yeah, I’m aware of that now
I shouldn’t have judged the book by its cover. I continue to think that he’s an ass. The only difference is that now I can say that based on my own experiences. Lesson learned!
That’s better xD
Check your MSN! I thought you were dead
Yeah, after reading the book, i still think he’s an ass. Not all successful bloggers MUST read JohnChow dot com… what an ass….
Promoting his own Website through his eBook.. worth it? :s
@Swastik: I would do that too if I were to publish a free ebook
@Wong: actually, as soon as I got that ebook from him I cancelled my email subscription
Hehehe, nice one Ikki!
People go to his website, download his eBook and see JC JC JC … in the eBook
JC begs people to read him
I must say i’m quite surprised as JC doesn’t have low readership.
I better unsubscribe now.
@Wong: *Hint* Compare his subscribers count to his Twitter followers count (A)
Wow, thats a huge difference. 2231 followers vs 33743 readers.
I think its time we stopped calling John Chow an idiot or a moron. Its those who continue blogging about him and giving him undue publicity that are the… anyways no offense meant to anyone and especially not to the author of this blog. Just that no publicity is bad publicity and we cannot keep feeding someone so much publicity and yet try to pull him down calling him an idiot and a moron. It just will not work. Completely ignoring him might work, but blogging about him (even if it is calling him an idiot and a moron) will not work. It only will further his cause and give him more undue publicity.
@moserw: While your point is valid, I simply had to take that off my chest. Thanks for your comments
Moron or not, the more important fact is that the guy is making millions of $$$
Not anybody can do that.
@PopuTech: unfortunately, he’s making profits out of his readers’ pockets
Ikki, John Cow or Chow which one is a bigger idiot?
@Farrhad: Well, I haven’t read Cow’s blog nor heard anything about him so I can’t say anything. I guess I’ll have to check his blog and learn about him.
still i’m a new comer on internet business, i don’t know much about him.
however, hate or love him, i think this post (and others) make him keep on the top.
@Ikki: I know many people who actually like Cow
“Moron or not, the more important fact is that the guy is making millions of $$$
PopuTech”
Millions? Are you kidding me?
John Chow ???? Never heard before ? Who is he?
Wkwkwkwk……
He said that : John Chow dot Com makes money because I don’t blog for money.
But almost all of his blog post offered his affiliate product …
I visited his blog few months ago, but not more than 5 times because i felt sucks…
